Yvonne has been in a chair since the age of 8, however this independent and engaging lady lives alone and manages all her needs without complaint. A recent 9 month stay in hospital set her back and understandably left her feeling low and in need of a break.

In their 22 years together Janet and Vickie had never been apart, that is until the events of Friday November 14th 2014 changed everything. That night as Vickie lay unable to move, having fallen down the stairs, Janet knew that things were going to be bad.

15 years ago, PJ’s life changed and many of the things that he enjoyed were closed off to him for a number of years. However, thanks to the generous support of others, PJ was able to take pleasure in many of the things that he took for granted pre-injury.

Being part of this community and sharing a lived experience with non-judgemental and supportive staff helped Tess to let go of some trauma and begin to work towards the acceptance of the new normal.

Although I love snorkelling, I just couldn’t imagine how scuba diving with a spinal cord injury would work, but everyone here just makes it so easy for you. It’s such a good feeling to be down under the water – I really just feel empowered and challenged.

Being a surfer previously, personally, it’s having the staff here with the knowledge and ability to take me out into the surf and to be able to go surfing again is a massive thing.

Our three-week stay was the first real holiday we have had following Belle’s accident. We’ve been on previous holidays where we’ve had to take air mattresses and all that kind of equipment, but here I don’t need to because I know she’s got what she needs.
