Supporting and celebrating the possible for people with spinal cord injury
The Sargood Foundation raises vital funds to support the life-changing programs and services delivered at Sargood on Collaroy.
Through the generosity of donors, partners and supporters, we help ensure people living with spinal cord injury (SCI), along with their families and carers, can access world-leading programs designed to rebuild confidence, independence, connection and joy.
More than a wellness destination, Sargood on Collaroy is a place where people reconnect with life, rediscover possibility and build meaningful connections — whether arriving independently, with family, or alongside their support network.
The Sargood Foundation is a not-for-profit, ACNC-registered Australian charity with DGR1 status.
Our Beginnings
More than 20 years ago, a passionate group of local community members came together with a bold vision: to create a place where people living with catastrophic spinal cord injury could reconnect with life beyond hospital walls.
That vision became Sargood on Collaroy — a world-first Centre for Holistic Wellness focused not simply on rehabilitation, but on possibility.
From the beginning, Sargood was shaped by people with lived experience of SCI who understood firsthand what was missing after catastrophic injury. They knew recovery was about far more than medical care. It was about reconnecting with family, rediscovering confidence, rebuilding identity and learning how to live fully again.
Importantly, they were determined Sargood would never feel like a hospital or rehabilitation ward. It needed to feel welcoming, uplifting and full of life — a place where people could have fun, make memories and embrace what is possible.
Today, Sargood challenges the traditional model of care by building upon the important work of hospitals and rehabilitation centres through a more holistic, family-centred approach focused on:
• Independence and self-management
• Confidence and participation
• Family connection and wellbeing
• Social connection and community inclusion
• Practical living skills
• Hope, optimism and fun

Our Mission
Through philanthropy, partnerships and advocacy, the Sargood Foundation helps ensure people living with SCI can access intensive, holistic programs that are simply unavailable anywhere else in the world — particularly for those who are financially vulnerable or excluded from mainstream funding systems.
But our mission is about more than funding programs.
It is about challenging the status quo and redefining what life after spinal cord injury can look like.
Spinal cord injury affects every aspect of life — physical health, mental wellbeing, employment, relationships, family dynamics and social connection. Families and carers are also profoundly impacted, often carrying enormous emotional and physical responsibilities.
That is why Sargood matters so deeply.
It provides a place where people rebuild confidence, reconnect with possibility and create a new path forward — together with those who matter most to them.
A place where optimism replaces isolation.
And a place where fun, friendship, learning and wellbeing exist side-by-side.
A World First Centre
Operated by Royal Rehab, Sargood on Collaroy is recognised as a world-first centre of excellence for people living with spinal cord injury.
Guests and Clients are supported by experienced professionals, adaptive technology specialists and program facilitators who understand that rebuilding life after SCI requires more than clinical rehabilitation alone.
Many arrive uncertain about what comes next.
What they discover is community, encouragement, confidence and possibility.
Some return to work or study. Others travel again, reconnect with family life or participate more fully in their communities for the first time in years.
For families and carers, Sargood provides something equally important: support, respite, reassurance and the opportunity to reconnect together beyond the routines of care.
A big point of difference at Sargood is that families are encouraged to stay together in beautiful accommodation, discovering new experiences and exciting ways to do life together – driving confidence and optimism for the entire family.
This is empowerment in action.
This is a holistic approach to rebuilding life after spinal cord injury.
And this is why supporting the Sargood Foundation matters so deeply.
Every donation helps ensure more people living with spinal cord injury and their families can access these life-changing experiences when they need them most.
