Golden Oldies Program

No one should feel forgotten after spinal cord injury.
Yet many older Australians living with spinal cord injury experience profound isolation, declining health, financial pressure and very limited support, particularly those excluded from NDIS funding (as is the case for people who sustained their SCI after the age of 65).
For some guests attending Sargood’s Golden Oldies Camps, it was the first meaningful break they had experienced since their injury.
For others, it was the first time they had met another person living with spinal cord injury.
And for many, it was the first time in years they truly felt seen.
At Sargood, older Australians reconnect with joy, dignity, friendship and community in a warm, fully accessible environment overlooking Collaroy Beach.
Guests enjoy shared meals, adaptive recreation, wellness programs, allied health support and simple moments of human connection that many have been missing for years.
But the real impact is emotional.
Friendships form.
Confidence returns.
Isolation gives way to belonging.
Golden Oldies Funding Support
Support from generous donors helps ensure older Australians living with spinal cord injury can access life-changing experiences that restore confidence, wellbeing and human connection when support is often hardest to find.
“Ted and I enjoyed every minute of our stay. The girls who showered and dressed me, the delicious food, the friendly atmosphere and the fantastic empathy that all staff showed to us. It made my health issues, of which I have many, fade into the background. The ex-curricular activities were well run and well prepared. The visit of Sir Peter Cosgrove & Rod Macqueen and their wives and the profound talk Sir Peter gave , just topped off a perfect weekend.”
