I couldn’t get over how lovely it was and easy to get around!

Can you imagine spending 9 years in an uncomfortable wheelchair from which you are unable to connect with others at eye level?

This is how our recent guest Margaret lived. Based in Regional NSW, she was facing a situation with little chance of improvement as her assigned OT was a paediatric specialist with no experience in the specialist needs of someone living with a spinal cord injury and living away from the city, Margaret was unable to access potential new chairs to trial.

Thankfully, a spinal outreach worker who had heard about Sargood on Collaroy was able to co-ordinate a visit for Margaret which was supported by the Sargood Foundation through the generosity of a benefactor.

When Margaret arrived at Sargood, our resident in house OT David had already organised 3 chairs that Margaret was able to trial extensively across her 5 day stay at Collaroy. With David’s expert advice and support, Margaret was able to select the chair and adaptions that suited her best. What Margaret wasn’t expecting though was all the extras that the Sargood Team were able to offer her which made her stay such a wonderful experience – she was able to enjoy the pool, take a motorised beach chair for a drive on the beautiful beach and experience a one on one session with Wade our in house exercise physiologist who gave her some great tips to take home.

Margaret said that her stay exceeded her expectations.

“ The room was just amazing; I couldn’t get over how lovely it was and easy to get around. We just so enjoyed having our breakfast together on the beautiful balcony”

Now Margaret is home and looking forward to the delivery of her new power chair and moving forward with her life.
