Ellen

Ellen and her partner Steph, who is her Carer, were able to experience their very first stay at Sargood on Collaroy, thanks to the support of our generous community of donors. They enjoyed a beautiful weekend together – a break from the stresses and strains of adapting to life as a recent paraplegic.

During her stay, Ellen felt that she was able to somewhat heal her mind. Being here, she felt so well cared for and was able to feel a little more resilient, which is so important as her relationship with her body has of course changed beyond all recognition. She felt that being here lightened her approach.

Ellen’s main goal for her stay was achieved – a dip in the ocean. She was capably and gently assisted by the Recreation Team who made her dream of having a swim come true and even helped her into a special adaptive wetsuit.

“I totally enjoyed floating around in the pool, it really was the highlight for me.” For someone who wasn’t sure if she would even want to come, Ellen’s experience surpassed all her expectations and as a bonus, she was delighted to meet some new people with a shared lived experience

“The staff are so helpful and accommodating here – they are really willing to go out of their way to help you. The place is just fabulous, but what really makes it special is the amazing staff.”
